DONN PEARLMAN AND CHICAGO COIN CLUB RECEIVE
ANA EXEMPLARY SERVICE AWARDS

First conferred in 1991, the American Numismatic
Association (ANA) Exemplary Service Award is presented to an
individual, club or corporation, firm or association whose services
to the ANA are deemed "above and beyond the call."  The 1999
recipients are Donn Pearlman of Chicago, Illinois, and the Chicago
Coin Club.
Donn Pearlman is an award-winning Chicago radio and
television broadcaster and now a marketing and media consultant,
specializing in numismatic endeavors.  He served on the ANA
Board of Governors for two terms and, at various times, chaired
the ANA Certification Service, Audio-Visual, Consumer Protection
and Publications Committees.  He currently is a member of the
Editorial Advisory Board and is a regular columnist ("Pearlman's
People") in the ANA's monthly journal, The Numismatist.
A coin collector since the age of eight, Pearlman is a
member of more than a dozen local, regional and national
organizations from California to Florida, including the ANA and
the Professional Numismatists Guild (PNG), which honored him
with its prestigious Sol Kaplan Award for Outstanding Service to
Numismatics in 1977.  He is a past president of the Morton Grove
(Illinois) Coin Club and has served on the board of directors of the
Numismatic Literary Guild (NLG), receiving the NLG's coveted
Clemy Award in 1984.
Pearlman's byline has appeared in variety of hobby
publications, and he is the author of four books_Best Buys in Rare
Coins; Collecting Baseball Cards; Making Money with Baseball
Cards (co-authored with Paul M. Green); and Breaking into
Broadcasting.
The Chicago Coin Club (CCC), founded as the Chicago
Numismatic Society in 1904, became the ANA's first charter club
in 1912. Seven years later, the group reorganized as the Chicago
Coin Club.  Its motto, Docendo Discimus ("We Learn by
Teaching"), has served the club well over the past 80 years,
ensuring the organization's strength and longevity. Monthly club
meetings are entertaining and educational, with guest speakers
addressing a variety of topics, from classical, medieval and modern
numismatics to medals, tokens and paper money.
The CCC is no stranger to ANA gatherings, having hosted
eight of the Association's previous 11 gatherings, including its first
in 1891 and its 100th in 1991.  The club also meets in conjunction
with the Chicago International Coin Fair and the Chicago Paper
Money Show, issuing collectable souvenir cards to commemorate
these gatherings. In addition, the group has produced several
medals and an informative collection of articles entitled
Perspectives in Numismatics.
In bestowing these Exemplary Service Awards, the
American Numismatic Association expresses the sincere
appreciation of its members.
