 Hi;

 I'm looking for plans to copy or purchase to build a small jet or
 turbine engine. Also If anyone has built or started to build one I'd
like to chat with them about problems, sources Etc.

 Thanks;

 C.W. Thomas

Re: Gas turbines. Funny you should bring up the subject. I just
bought the "Gas Turbine Engines for Model Airplanes"by Kurt
Schreckling. He has done experimental work on these for over 5
years and documents the experiments AND the math & theory behind
them in this EXCELLENT book. Anyone with any  intrest in model
gas turbines should really get this book. It includes complete
plans on building your own model gas turbine!!
If anyone would like to order a copy:
"Gas Turbine Engines for Model Aircraft" by Kurt Schreckling.
This is an English language translation of the original German
language book.

Order from: Traplet Publications Limited; Severn Drive,
Upton-on-Severn; Worcestershire  WR8 0JL; England; Phone 011 44
684 594505; FAX 011 44 684 594586. (Phone and fax numbers are the
complete dialing sequence for calls from the US [011 get overseas
line, 44 is country code and the rest is the phone/fax number]
They accept mastercard & visa. My invoice shows a price of 14.95
British Pounds + 5.00 British Pounds for shipping [I let the
credit card company worry about the exchange rates, but it works
out to about $25 US + $8 US shipping] My copy took about 3 weeks
to arrive.

I can also recommend this book - I originally read the
part-translation by Leonard Woods, which was mostly the building
and running chapters.  I came to the conclusion that it was a
clever design, but I couldn't understand why some things were done
in a particular way.

Now that I've read the whole book in English I can only say that
he is a _very_ clever designer!  He has set up his design so that
no shape and dimension is critical, and minor imperfections can be
tolerated (apart from those which affect balance and strength).

If your interested in the turbines, etc. then it's worth a look.
You never know, you might be tempted to build one!
