Best technique for minituare sword making.

A friend of mine collects BJD dolls. Impressive things they are. I've
already figured out how to hammer a coke can into reasonable
refelction of plate mail armour but now the project draws to the
amoury itself.

I would like to make a sword for one these dolls. About 6-8" long and
representation of a fantasy bastard sword.

What would be the best technique to do this? The best metal to work
with?

My idea was to use a blowlamp (Mapp or propane) to metal a low melting
point metal into a sand cast then using a multi tool (like a Dremel)
to clean up, sharpen and engrave the necessary detail into it.

The other technique was again to use a blow lamp to heat a metal bar
and shaped the metal with a hammer over an anvil.

I've never tried the casting method and my only hammer shaping
experince is the coke can armour which I'm doing over a wooden former.

Any advice would be appriecated.

I would use stainless as it will remain shiny.  Assuming you don't
have a bunch of tools, maybe go to the Goodwill store and buy a
stainless table knife.  Shape with a file, grinder, hacksaw.
