trade for dots?

Post by quilte » Sat, 18 Mar 2006 08:53:58

Hi all,
I've had a rough few weeks health-wise and haven't quilted in almost a
month, so I decided tonight that I needed a pick-me-up.  I went digging
through my stash, picked out fabric to finish up (in my dreams) my moon
over mountain quilt, and, I think, maybe, have decided that I will
definitely (probably) do the RCTQ BOM, and I will do it in polka dots,
as a lap quilt just for me!  So, first, advice -- would a quilt of ALL
polka dots look funny?  Anyone ever done one who can share photos?

Next, a request...I am rootling through my various bins looking for
every little polka dot fabric I can find, but it's not much yet.  If
anyone has any excess and wants to trade for something else, please let
me know.  I particularly covet the black and pink Michael Miller print
with the little polka dots (maybe I'll buy that one, I've been wanting
to for ages for a purse anyway), but any dots will do.  Let me know
what you're hunting for and I'd be happy to swap (and concentrate on
something other than medical issues for a little while).

Lynn, who thinks a swap is just the thing to cheer her up.

Hi Lynn, glad you're back.  Hope you get to feeling "normal" again
right soon!

I think an all polka dots quilt would work- IF you have some micro dots
that read as a solid and dots of various colors on various colored
backgrounds.  Otherwise the dots could all mesh into each other and
just drive your eyes nutzo.  I don't think I have any polka dot fabric,
but will check and get back to you....

Thanks Leslie - I think you're right.  I do have some red micro dots
around here somewhere.  I also found some sort of dark blue bubbles
fabric that will read as a solid.  I can't wait to start!  A lot of
people I know don 't like polka dots, so this makes it feel more like a
fun quilt just for me.

Okay, Lynn, here's what I have-

http://community.webshots.com/album/548623901SHcKOI

Most are either very small dots- think the old dotted Swiss fabrics- or
very irregular dots.  Most are also just scraps, but you're welcome to
any or all of it.  Except for the dotted batik--  I have plans for it-
sorry!

Lynn- email me please, with your snail addy.  I have polka dots inherited
from when MSM died, and I don't really like them all that much. (I don't
think there's any pink/black, though I know there's some neon on bright
yellow) <grin>

Lynn, it's good to see you back again! I don't think I have any dots
left, but I'll take a look in the next few days. However, I have seen a
quilt made all of dots -- a Freddy Moran creation. <g> I think that you
could pull it off if you keep scale in mind. Tiny dots, big dots, medium
dots. If they're all the same size, they'll get lost in each other. But
a variety of sizes should be lots of fun! :)

I'll check my stash.  I'm not much for dots, but I think I might have
some that was given to me quite some time ago...Hmm, wonder where those
are any way?

I'm glad you are thinking of working the BOM with us!  It should be a
fun way to help cheer you up!

What size fabric are you hoping for?  6" squares?, 3 to 5 yards?  I'm sure
there's some here but before I go on a dig, I need to know what would be
useful and what would be too small.  Polly

I've got some bright pink with white dots and some lime green with tiny
white dots that you're welcome to.  Each piece is at least 12" x 14", if
that's enough.  I put a photo up on webshots if you want to take a look.  If
nothing else, they're cheerful!

Hi Lynn,
Glad you're feeling a bit better!

some red on hot pink and red on  peach.  If you're interested in a piece of

Hi Donna,
Those look perfect - what can I send you in exchange?  Sorry, tried to
reply privately, but since I use google, I can't see your whole address
to unmunge it.
thanks!
