Fish Quilt Story (Long)

I got this cool Sun Fabric (I liked it) .. well my friend wasn't all that crazy about
it which for me was NO problem at all cuz I want her to have something that she will
love and use for her son.  Any way I had some nice Hoffman Angel Fish fabric which
she liked better. Back to the quilt shop I go to get just the "right" co-ordinating
fabrics.  I by now have decided on a pattern A Four Patch alternated with a Charm
Patch.  Ok I decided to use an orange peach fabric from the frosting collection and
some blue moda marble for the 4 patches. then got this neat fabric that has gold fish
swimming in it.. (that will be the charms and the backing)

Got the blocks all cut and sewn .. looks good too all the fish are pointing in the
right direction. put Border #1 on a 2" finished Black Strip nice and easy.. so far so
good.. this puppy is looking good!  Now I go to put the Outside border on.. OH
SHOOT.. well I used a stronger word actually...  I cut the Horizontal Pieces FIRST..
EEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKK (this fish fab is a Directional Fabric .. vertical of
course)  Now I don't have enough length for the Vertical Borders.

Off to ANOTHER quilt shop.. cuz I know that where i got the other stuff they don't
have what I need.  Oh well I don't mind having to go to the quilt shop again... I
forget to take the top.. duh. Anyway .. I get this REALLY cool Hoffman Tropical Fish
Fabric and I say oh yes that will work out great, I also got another Hoffman Angel
fish that coordinates with it too. Hey the Hoffmans just JUMP into my hands .. lol
what can I say?

I get home and I lay out the new fabric that I think I'm going to use for Borders.
THINK being the operative word here.. and oh YUCK i HATE it,  the quilt is
WAAAAAAYYYYYY too orange. NOw what am I going to do???  ok I sit and think for a
minute.. I could put the Sun Fab border on it will look GREAT.. but my friend doesn't
really like that.. soooo I Start from Scratch!

I have enough of the seaweed fab.. and enough of the blue moda (hey I always buy way
more than I need cuz I want my stash to have some.. good thing too.. I now decide
that the blue moda and the goldfish in the seaweed will be the 4 patch blocks and the
large block will be the Former Border the old Hoffman Angel fish.  I rush through..
sew all day (this was last Wed and the Shower was on Sunday Morning the 18th) I
decide that this time I'll add 2 more rows so the quilt is a bit larger. It has a few
small mistakes but I know that baby Billy and his mom won't mind cuz after all we are
great friends. I get the first border on (black again) then I carefully cut the
Tropical Fish Border making sure that I cut the Vertical borders First this time :)
then I piece the horizontal borders.

I add all borders and I am SOOOOOOO happy that I started over cuz I REALLY LOVE this
2nd quilt much better than that first one.

I even got the whole thing basted (THREAD basted no less, I had planned on pin
basting but I was possessed) used the remainder of the goldfish fab for the backing.
I wrapped the basted quilt up along with a note to please call me and I'll pick up
the quilt at my friend's convenience since her baby has come home from the hospital a
bit earlier than expected :) I guess I'll decided exactly how I'm going to quilt this
puppy.. er Fishy once i get it back.

Oh yeah.. did I mention that this is only my 2nd or 3rd completed TOP.. I'm doing the
Happy Dance big time here!!

I took pics of the top as soon as I pressed the last border so I will post it to my
website once i get the pics developed.

I am very impressed at all the work you put into this quilt and I am doing
an early happy dancing in the sand for you. Oh, add a border to the first
quilt and you can always donate it to a worthy cause. Bigbearlady

I plan on adding a border.. I just need to decide which one to add.  I might keep it
around until the quilt tells me who it wants to live with :).  Both of my girls like
the quilt as it is so it may end up in their bedroom.
