Contest for making a purse

Post by She in P » Fri, 11 Nov 2005 15:17:42

I am in a contest at my Guild to make a purse. They gave us two different
colors of fabric. The rules are we have to use some or all of this fabric in
a tote, pure or handbag. We can design our own or use a pattern. We have
until June to get it done. It will be shown at our dinner in June.
It doesn't have to be quilted. I made a purse out of men's neckties and
added fringe around it. It was my own design it turn out very classy
looking. Every time I go out using it someone complements me about it. I
like designing my own stuff. I have seen lately on TV them making purses out
of the covers of books. They just take the pages out then open up the sides
against the fabric to see how far they need the purse to open and the make
the side panels out of fabric. Then make handles out of fabric. One show the
glued everything and another show they sewed a lining and punched holes in
the sides and laced the sides up. I thought about covering the whole book
even the outside with fabric.

Do any of you guys have any wild ideas for a purse or a tote. Something
different not your basic pattern? I need some ideas to get me thinking.

Thanks,
She in PA

That book business sounds pretty wild to me!!! I'd say that would knock
their socks off, if you pulled it together well. (Unless other people
know about that idea in your group.)

I saw a purse made out of a padded bra the other day.  Each cup made up each
side of the purse. The straps were cut off.  With fringe*** on the
bottom. Obviously the larger the cup.the bigger the purse..LOL
