Quilting Frame advice, please

Post by Nann Blaine Hilya » Sat, 10 Feb 1996 04:00:00

Now that my personal quilting revival is into its
3rd year and going strong I want to go beyond
machine quilting into hand quilting.  I have a
30-year-old hoop frame on a stand that my
mother used and then gave to me for my first
round of quilting (23 years ago!), but I see ads
for fullsize frames and for Q-snap frames, etc.,
and wonder whether I should get something
larger.  The magazines have ads for quilt frame
kits but no prices--how much do they cost?
Is there a big difference between brands?  The
Q-snap looks the most convenient, but is it a
good buy?

TIA!

Nann
whose motive in this is to come upstairs out of
the ba***t sewing room and thus keep DH
company (because he is nice to be around)

I have a Q-snap frame which I don't use (except as a play structure for my
8 year old) because it doesn't tilt, which makes it difficult for me to
work on.  It is a good size, however.

I have one too, but I have one of the tilt options.  There are now
extending legs you can purchase through some of the catalogs.
I bet you could make it tilt just by putting something under the
away-side of the frame, too.  I like it because it's small enough
that I can move my chair around it so I don't have to move the
quilt to quilt in a different direction.  But---I'm still a novice and
my advice may not be valid for anyone but myself!  I also bought
a floor style task lamp--one that tilts up down and around to use
for better lighting.  I was less than $20 and well worth the cost.
