OT: Fire (Cross all available fingers please)

I was just made aware of a fire a short distance north of me.
Great billows of smoke rising above a rise maybe 5 miles up
the creek.  As I looked, flames shot into the air as tree(s)
ignited on the crest.

I'm trying to put on my bra as I type.  More clothes will be
added when I sign off--in case I have to move my a** out
of Happy Camp.

I hope you are back home safe and able to read this Ruth.
All those beautiful trees in your part of the world are great but a
little scarry to me.  Be safe.

Oh no! I hope you remain untouched by fire.

(notice I added 'by fire' in case you'd like to be touched by something or
someone else...)

I really need to start watching the news.  I was totally oblivious to the
fires in Oregon until DH informs me tonight of why it's been so hazy around
here lately.

Keeping all who are threatened in my thoughts and prayers.  We don't have
any fire near us...at least not that I know of.  Of course, living in the
suburbs of Portland, it isn't a heavily wooded area here anymore.

It worked! (I hope.)

The fire was within a mile; blazed merrily up to the top of the
mountain then turned back down to the road.  People went out
with chainsaws; a Caterpillar was dozing down trees from the
top; a few aircraft were working the fire.  By dark, I saw no
more black smoke and leaping flames.  I lost power (our lines
from Oregon run right through those trees) right after posting;
woke to a blinking clock at about 3:30 and could see only a few
flickers.  Now all I see is smoke haze (none rising), and hear no
activity at all.  So, I hope it is out.  I just hope there are not more
around.

Strange:  I didn't even THINK stash!  Figured I'd grab a suitcase
and toss in some socks, a fistful from the underwear drawer,
a few hangars from the closet, and my toothbrush.

I've worried about fires since our dry winter.  One big electrical
storm started lots of little ones, quickly extinguished (there was
heavy rain right after) a couple of months ago.  We have been SO
lucky so far.  The fires of '87 (hundreds, all started in one night)
burned nearly to the homes here on at least two sides.  We'd had
(and were to have yet) several years of drought.  It has been more
"normal" since '93 until now.
