OT Good Day Bad Day

Post by Heather Cros » Thu, 26 Feb 2004 15:25:36

How a good day turns sour.
I posted yesterday about my first day of Uni and how it was a good day.
Well 10 mins after I hit the send button I had a phone call from my brother
in Brisbane - thats the other side of Australia to me.  My Dad is in
hospital with 2 collapsed lungs and his kidneys are failing.
He has not been healthy for a long time and is nearly 79 but much of his
problems are aggravated because he is too stubborn, pigheaded and downright
scared to listen to his doctor.
When my brother was packing Dad's thing to send up to the hospital he found
an admission slip that Dad's doctor had given him 10 days ago - but Dad
wouldn't go.  And he didn't tell my brother about it either.
Anyway I have rung the hospital today and Dad is improving - they are
keeping him in for  a couple of days (if he doesn't sign himself out like he
did last time) because his BP is down and for observation. They say there is
no need for me to rush over there just yet.
AND just for good measure - today I got a call to say my niece's 5 week old
baby died this morning - cot death.  Niece is 21.  She is not coping very
well.
I feel a bit battered today. Its really nice to know you are all out there
listening. Thanks
Heather in West Oz

Oh Heather, there really are no words at a time like this but know that my
shoulders are there for you if you feel like a cry.  Please let me know if
there is anything I can do seeing as how I'm a wee bit closer than you are.

Heather:
Warm condolences on the loss of your niece's child. I will keep
the baby's mom in prayers. This is so very sad.

Also sending good thoughts about your father. I hope you can
visit him if *you* need the visit. Pay attention to your heart
and go to him if you need that. (The hospital folk don't know
you, nor your family dynamics.)

This is exactly what is meant by the Sandwich Generation. The
older and younger generations face challenges and need the family
intervening generation. It is difficult for them, and is also
difficult to be in the middle.

Hugs, PAT, also Sandwich Generation!

Oh Heather, what distressing news.
let's hope now that the hospital has finally got your Dad in their
'clutches', they will fix whatever's wrong, even if only temporarily.
How sad for your niece.  5 weeks old, oh dear.
Take care,
.

Heather --

Piggy-backing because I didn't get your original post, but wanted to send
good thoughts and prayers for you and your family at this very stressful and
sad time.  Hugs.
