I also use my regular detergent for coloured fabrics - I sometimes
have a different detergent for whites, so take care not to use that
one.

I use my regular laundry soap, but when I wash the finished quilt, I use
cold water and a color catcher.

Okay now.  We all know I have a few screws loose - but it seems like we
decided here that Oxy would dissolve silk - as in thread used for appliqu .
Yes? No?  Polly

But, Polly!  I don't DO silk.  But I DO do messy, sloppy, grubby, etc.  I
need my Oxy!  Yeah, I saw it, too... I wrote doo-doo.  BTW did y'all see
Oprah yesterday?  (shuddering!)

I use Tide for whites but then have to double rinse as my skin doesn't
like it. For darks I use what ever is on sale like no name, sunlight,
abc what ever it is. Not sure why but my skin doesn't have any issues
with the no name stuff but I also only use 1/2 of what ever is
recommended. I don't think there is any reason to use all the soap
unless you were rolling in the mud or grease, which happens occasionally
around here with hubby and two kids...haha

Kate, I'm a newbie and I've never had occasion to wash a finished quilt, but
when in doubt about washing something, I always use baby soap.
Specifically, Ivory Snow.  It's the only soap I've found that doesn't ruin
Gore-Tex, and I also trust silk and woolens to it.  I've had bad luck with
Woolite, and have been told that it's because it contains lanolin.  FWIW.

Wash them in Persil non-biological and Oxy-if-it's-grubby-or I spilt
*** of coffee over it during the make.  I add Comfort fabric
conditioner.  I wash at sixty degrees and hot tumble dry.  So far so
good, but I dare say I get my come-uppance one day.

Dr. Oz was on and one of the main subjects was pooh- of all things!  It was
informative if  very 'shudderable'.  Intestinal worms, hookworms, tape
worms, p*nis fish.... Sheesh, the things they covered!

Ugh.  Ugh.  Ugh!!!

I use Orvus, bought at the local feed store years ago.  Why the feed store?
I don't remember, maybe 4H kids use it on their animals?  It's very gentle
stuff.  I started using it to wash finished cross stitch projects.  At that
time, it was highly recommended by local stitching shops.  So, if it was
safe enough for cross stitch, I figured it's safe enough for quilts.  I was
very optimistic about the quantity of stitching I would need to wash and
bought a gallon jug; of course you only need a tiny amount, so I have about
3/4 of the jug left.
