Scott and I are reading about the wildfire 10 miles south of Happy Camp.
Ruth? Are you out there? You OK? Y'all can keep your fingers crossed- it
sounds like a bad one, and some fire fighters have lost their lives.

Well-smoked, but otherwise ok. I did not know about the three fatalities
until about an hour ago when my SIL called from East Texas. That
brought the toll to 14 dead in this year's fires. Two more guys in the
truck were injured--one is in intensive care. The fire is up Elk Creek,
which is where my water comes from.

Glad you are OK but *really* sorry to hear about the fatalities :-(. AZ was
soooo lucky to have had such a large wildfire and not have any serious
injuries, let alone any fatalities. I shall say prayers that the fire by you

So glad to hear you're alright, Ruth -- relatively speaking. I'm sorry
to hear about the fatalities and the injuries; these people are real
heroes to rush into such danger.

I heard a week ago that we have "used up" all our experienced fire
fighters and might ask Australia for some. What happened? Where
are the Aussies?

The army landed at the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) in Boise last
week & was put on busses to go to the Oregon fires. Hadn't heard anything
yet about Aussies. Years ago I worked at NIFC, only then it was Boise IFC,
glad I'm not working there now. When they have fire busts like this year,
you're practically working around the clock.
