Phebe said a bunch of good stuff!  (As usual--and glad to see you back!)

Another thought--sometimes the clerks really love you if you do them the favor
of putting your own bolts back if they are very busy!  I became famous at my
local Cloth World for a time after I went in and ordered 1/8 yard of SEVENTY
TWO different solids for my first quilt.  The cutters rolled up their eyes
until they realized I was putting every bolt back, properly draped, in just
the place it came out of.  They talked about it for weeks. Usually, if you are
SURE you can get it back where it came from, they think you're an angel, and
it only takes a moment.  (Similarly, I got a look of desperate gratitude
from the clerk at an early-morning madhouse sale with customers four deep
around the counter when someone asked for 17 yards of something and I stepped
up and started folding the loose end as it was unfurled and measured.)
