I want to start a crazy quilt, bought a bag of scraps of velvet ect.from
the quilting store, some hand made doilies, battenburg love bird ect. and
now I will need to get some silk ribbon, Just love that stuff, havent tryed
it but Ive done cross stitch, embroidry and grama has a wonderful book on
crazy quilting stitches.       Anyway I would love to talk to someone who
has done one or wants to think about it.  Want to encorparate things gramas
have given me, my church gloves when I was little, some of the lace from
dress's my girls have worn, ect.              Ok now the question, since
this fabric is so delicate, fraying ect, should I foundation piece it, well
that would make it hard to stitch, I guess i could serge the edges of the
blocks while I am stitching??  But than the seams would fray underneath,
and I dont like Fray check.    Any Ideas????  I guess I should just start
and deal with things as they come...............Just thinking.........Steph

Steph:

You sound like someone who needs to be on the Crazy Quilt Listserve.
This is about 300 people in North America and Australia who are working
on CQ's.  You can get some great advice!

Go to the Quiltropolis website at    http://www.quiltropolis.com/ then
click on mail lists.  About 3 or 4 list info sections down is the Crazy
Quilt list.  You can subscribe there.

Steph

All of the crazy quilting I have seen has been made on a foundation
piece.  While I have only tried it on a very limited basis I have
friends who have created beautiful crazy quilts.

Judith Montano has several books out on the subject.  They are
informative and absolutely beautiful to look at.
