Message Problem

Post by Alice in P » Sat, 08 Aug 2009 05:18:56

During the past couple of weeks, I've noticed that I'm receiving a lot of
replies to messages.  However, I've never received the original message.  I
can usually find the message with  the replies, but it's annoying to read
the answers first, then the questions.  Anyone know what's going on?

if you get this...
any msg posted has to go thru a few servers along the internet before it
reaches someone else.
everyone is linked thru different servers along the way.
if one of those servers is having maintenence or any hiccups it might never
get past that point in the chain.
you can see the route of any msg after it is read by right clicking on the
msg line, then click on propetys and read the top line from the end
backwards.
the end of the line is from the sender towards your computer at the
beginning.
you can check quickly if someone is posting thru google groups as that will
show as the last link on the top line and your isp or the last server before
the msg got to your computer will show at the beginning of the line.
most posts go thru about 4 servers along the route.
any one of those is out and it might just *poof* into the lost world of
***space and never reach some of us.
ack, not sure if that is clear enough for you. i'm only on first cuppa and
the foggy morning here means its a bit cold still and fingers and brain
arent up to***yet, not that they'll get any better but one can hope they
will at some point in the day.
i'm sure someone else will have a clearer explanation soon.

This happens to me frequently (using OE).  If I do a search for the header
message -- it shows up in the FIND box and I can open it and read it.  But
if I just look at the basic newsgroup display window at the list of
messages -- I can't find it.

Confounds me!  and frustrates me beyond belief!!

I also use OE, and this is exactly what is happening.  A couple times I've
actually gone through Google to find out what the original message was.

OK, one of the posts that I didn't receive was the one from Sunny entitled
"What's stopping you??"  The first time it appeared was the response from
Joanna.  I just tried to find all related messages, and the original did not
show up.

every time one of us posts a msg it goes from our computer thru various
other servers, hopefully eventually getting to everyone else.
if by chance it hits a server doing maintence or having issues at the time
that msg reaches that server it could just get lost in ***space.
that route will vary on any given day for any reason or no reason at all,
well no reason i'd understand.
as long as you can find the original msg either in another reply or at
google groups you're ok.
cant be fixed, cant be helped, just something we have to learn to live with.

that will only show you the route a certain msg has taken.
it will change all day from one person to another, it is flexible but
somewhat uncontrollable for we untechy types.
it wont fix your problem.
dont worry about it as long as you can see the original msg either in
another reply or on google groups if you get desperate.

But if we can do FIND in OE -- and it appears -- that means it has been
downloaded and is there...

it just ISN'T displaying in the list of messages???

(I search for the Subject line -- and EVERY time the missing message
appears -- but when I close the find window and go to the date in the
list -- nope... not there.)

Beats me!

that is the window layout.
i meant when you click on 'view' on the top menu, what is it set on?
see if anything on there changes what you're seeing without needing to do a
'find' to see it.
