Beads breaking while weaving

Beads breaking while weaving

Post by Marisa Cappett » Fri, 13 Feb 2004 10:11:14

I was weaving some earrings and made one too many passes through a bead and
it shattered. In a small pair of earrings it was a minor annoyance, I had to
re-make the entire earring. What happens if a bead is shattered in a large
piece, is there any way to replace or salvage the work or  am I basically up
sh*t creek?!

This has happened to me, and I've just tried to hide the exposed thread and
woven another bead in it's place. I don't recommend cutting the showing thread
because it's holding the rest of the piece together. Not much help am I? LOL!
Hope someone else can help you!
You've got my sympathy! I hate it when that happens!

It depends on where the bead is, etc. IME it probably can always be salvaged
somehow.

Actually, you often can snip the thread....Just weave the surrounding area til
you feel it's secure again.

You eventually will get used to the feel of the needle and thread and bead.
You'll be able to tell how much thread is in your beads and how far you can
force the issue, etc.

This I agree with.  It's really hard to fix when one breaks in the middle.
:) And it's so frustrating!!

I'm too scared to do that. LOL! I don't want my pieces falling apart on me! On
some of them I can't even remember how I passed the thread (like freeform
stuff, which is where it happens most often).
