Looking for Alabama Air National Guard Gate Guard Plane information

Post by Trey Ru » Mon, 03 Jun 2002 13:36:06

I'm looking to see if anyone knows the type of Aircraft that was on
display at the Alabama State Fairgrounds during the late 60's. I
believe it is either an RF-84 or an F-86D.

Thanks,
Trey

Hi Trey:

There was indeed a "D" or "L" model Sabre at the fairgrounds during the
timeframe you mentioned.
I have seen it many times as a kid. It was located on the west side of the
fairgrounds, next to the
Kiddyland portion of grounds, and directly across the street from the old 5
Points West shopping
center. I don't recall when it was removed, but it was in the mid 70's. This
may be the "L" model
thats at the USS Alabama Park in Mobile. BTW, this was not an AL ANG
aircraft. They never flew
this type. There is (or was) another F-86D/L at Banks High School in the
East Lake area of town.

Thanks,

Thanks A friend of mine needs to do a model of the aircraft, whether
it was the 86 or the 84 Anyone have any pics of the 86? The 84 is
still on display, but is it in the same scheme as origianally?

Thanks for your help,
Trey Rush
