UK IPMS Nationals Question

Post by Flights Of Fantas » Wed, 14 Oct 1998 04:00:00

Does anyone know if the "Kit Swap" will be held again this year?

If not, are IPMS allowing the sale of s/h kits on the club stands?

From our local "Club Newsletter" it was mentioned that the usual Frowned
upon" - God knows why practice of selling 2nd hand model from the club
stands was to be regulated.

Apparently lists (With prices) will be available on those stands that
are selling 2nd hand kits.

Not really mucj help to those of us that like to pick up the box - look
inside and think erm err do I really want this, I know I'll just do it
in so and so's markings or Okay its' a steal I don't make ships BUT its
only five quid instead of thirty !!!

Come back the good ol'days......

AFIK, the kit swap will be open, but to IPMS members only.  Selling kits
from branch stands will be permissible only by having a list to look at.
This is to stop people from crouching over large boxes in the gangways
and causing an obstruction which could contravene the fire regulations.
It may sound picky to some people, but fire regs are there to protect
us.  Health and Safety inspectors have the right to close a venue
*immediately* if they feel the fire regs are being broken.  That means
'everyone out, now, no questions, leave your kits behind' type of
immediately.  Personally, I'm happy to display inside the hall instead
of in the car park ;)

Not sure if they have actually found any volunteers to run the Kit
Swap this year...

Sales from club stands is *theoretically* allowed, but there must be
absolutely no obstructions in the gangways. Therefore, the way people
should be doing it is to keep all the kits, etc. BEHIND their stands,
and have a LIST on show at the front. So, you can read the list, and
if you're interested in anything, the item should be "in stock" at the
back.

This is to comply with fire regulations, ie not obstructing public
passage through the gangways. Similarly, traders have also been warned
about "overflowing" from their alloted patch.

And yes, the kit swap IS on this year - for IPMS members only, and
held in the IPMS members only bar area, upstairs.
