"Sci-Fi Matters" Martian War Machine kit ...?

Post by Tracy & da' SWAMPdog » Mon, 03 Mar 2003 12:28:17

In the new FSM there is an ad on page 62 for a company called "Sci-Fi
Matters" and it shows a "Martian War Machine" kit.  Well, the story The War
of the Worlds, the radio show, and the movie were some of my favorite things
when I was a kid so naturally I am interested in the Maritan ship.  I looked
on their website (www.scifimatters.com) but they only have 1 photo of the
model and... well... from the photo it doesn't really strike me as being
very close to my memory of the movie's one....

Anyone seen this kit IRL?  Any other manufacturer's models available of it?

TIA!

Tracy, who really does need ANOTHER kit on the shelf... no really.  I don't
have any other Sci Fi kits yet....

Took a look at the site and the ship looked just like I remembered it from
the movie, FWIW.  Then I did a Google search and the original movie posters
seem to be just like the model on the URL you gave.

I watched the film last weekend and it looks pretty much identical to me
too.
Of course the Martian war machine in the film isn't much like the one in the
book.
Pehaps the OP was thinking of something more like this...

I have the movie in DVD and VHS and watch it about once a month. The kit
looks good for the movie version - but way off from the tripod walking
machines described in the book and radio show.

I seem to remember an ad for a model of the book's version of the fighting
machine.
Thanks for the pics-interesting.

The "Sci-Fi Matters" kit is made by me www.skyhookmodels.com

There are only a couple of other kits available. A 13" resin kit from
Monsters in Motion, a 16" vacform kit from Lunar Models, a 3" diorama
kit from Lunar, an ancient 8" vacform from SFMA, and a very tiny 3/4"
mini diorama also from Skyhook.
