(AIR) Tomcat Question, Pt. II

Post by Francis X. Kranick, Jr » Wed, 12 Jun 2002 22:24:04

I've read where the glove vanes on some versions of the F-14 were
removed (I think on the -B and -D) and that the -A+ had them 'wired
shut' or somesuch measure to render them inoperable - though I'd hazard
a guess that they were electrically disconnected vice being physically
wired shut...

Question 1.    Do current examples of the F-14A still use them?
Question 2.    Were they physically removed and faired over from
later models?

It's my understanding that their operational use was overstated and
they were a maintenance woe.  Thanks for any help on this.
