Does anyone have photo references for this type? All I have seen are
3-view drawings in Green's 'Warplanes of the Third Reich' and 'Warplanes
of teh Second World War.' I'm looking at a conversion from the
Revell-Germany Ar 240C kit.
TIA

Hi Mark,

According to my database, the Ar 440 is covered in the following books:

Dressel and Griehl: 'The Luftwaffe Album: Bomber and Fighter Aircraft
of the German Air Force 1933-1945' (Arms and Armour Press [UK], 1997;
252 pages; US$34.95)  [Combined reprint of "Fighters of the Luftwaffe"
and "Bombers of the Luftwaffe"]

Green: 'The Warplanes of the Third Reich' (MacDonald and Jane's [UK],
1979; 672 pages; approximate value US$75 [out of print])

Kosin: 'The German Fighter since 1915' (Putnam Aeronautical series
[unnumbered]; Putnam [UK], 1988; 224 pages; US$39.95)

Kranzhoff: 'Arado: History of an Aircraft Company' (Schiffer [USA],
1997; 167 pages; US$35)

Lange: 'Das Buch der Deutschen Luftfahrttechnik: Bildteil' (Verlag
Dieter Hoffmann [Germany], 1970; in German; 651 pages; approximate value
US$150 [out of print])

Nowarra: 'Die Deutsche Luftrstung 1933-1945, Band 1: Flugzeugtypen
AEG - Dornier' (Die Deutsche Luftrstung series, No. 1; Bernard & Graefe
Verlag [Germany], 1993; in German; 256 pages; US$29.95).

Wood and Gunston: 'Hitler's Luftwaffe' (Salamander [UK], 1977; 248
pages; approximate value US$20 [out of print])

I'd need to check at home to be sure which of these provide photographs,
but I do recall that the book by Lange includes nothing *but* photos.

Please feel welcome to contact me off-line if you don't have access to
the references I've listed above.

around here and if memory serves me correctly there are one or two pics of the
440 in there.

Thanks to everyone for their help. The details on the Ar 440 are pretty
elusive, it seems, with at least one so-captioned photo being the Ar
240V-1. If anyone finds photos, I'd much appreciat scanned images.
Thanks again.

I'm afraid so. This is certainly very similar to the original Ar 240V-1,
if not the same airplane. that particular design was so aerodynamicvlly
horrific that the Ar 240V-3 and susbsequent were rsadiacally different
in configuration, with***pit moved well forward and dorsal and ventral
fins on the tail extension, among other things. It is unlikely the Ar
440 design would have reverted to the original configuration.
