AM TBF-1C Avenger

I am currently building the Accurate Miniatures TBF-1C Avenger and
I have to say that this is by far the cleanest, nicest and most accurate
kit I think I have had the pleasure to work on straight from the box.
The Avenger has always been a favorite plane of mine and I have
many books on that aircraft. This kit is accurate right down to nearly
every nut and bolt. In finishing up the***pit I was amazed at the
amount of subtle detail that is in the plane. The gauges, switches,
cable housing.. all of it right where it should be.
The only thing I have altered so far is to put etched brass seat
belts in it. That ALWAYS adds a lot of realism to any model. I am not
going to use the decals that came with the kit but have elected to use
the Aeromaster Decals for carrier based Avengers. Specifically the
version A which depicts a TBM-1 USS Mission Bay Avenger. Granted, the
decal set from this addition is for a TBM rather than a TBF, but in
reality, very little if any difference exists besides which location the
aircraft was built. I also found some reference for some TBF's belonging
to that group of aircraft as well.
I was impressed as to how well the fuse halves went together. It
only took a few moments of wiggling for the two halves to make that
satisfying "snap" of unity. If only they had given the kit optional
lowered flaps and moving surfaces (besides the rudder). I know, I know,
there is a resin update for all of that. But I didn't want to use that.
I want to see how nice this kit can look right out of the box.
I am planning on it being ready for the model show at the Pearson
Air Museum on Vancouver,WA on the 28th of this month. If your going to
make it to that let me know, perhaps we can get together. Thanks
everyone for making such an enjoyable forum for modelers.

And I have *yet* to hear any of the usual nitpickers notice that the -3 has
the wrong prop in it.  Cutting Edge has a resin replacement (which can also
come from a Tamiya F4U-1A), but the narrow chord prop is only appropriate
for the -1s.

Otherwise, she's a real honey :))
