Shops near Houston, TX?

Post by Lesa Steel » Fri, 08 Dec 2000 11:25:04

I will be in the Houston, TX area this month.  Are there any
not-to-be-missed shops?  From Houston I will be driving approx 2-1/2 hours
to a small town called Weches and would love to make stops along the way
<G>.  Now darned if I only knew what direction Weches is....(last time I was
there, I bought a shirt which said" Where the h*** is Weches?).

TIA

Looks like Weches (population 26) is north of Houston in the Davy
Crockett National Forest. If you're flying into Bush Intercontinental
(aka Houston Intercontinental) Airport, there are really only two shops
that would be "on the way".

Three Stitches is at 7822 Louetta--take I-45 north, exit at Louetta,
turn left (west) on Louetta and go several miles. Watch street numbers
to know when you're getting close. The shop will be in a small shopping
center on your right along with Molly Malone's Pub. Stitches and More is
in Spring--go back to I-45 on Louetta, turn left (north) on the feeder
road, but don't bother to get on the freeway as you want the next exit
anyhow. Turn right on Spring Cypress Road (follow signs to "Old Town
Spring") and watch for the shop in a small shopping center on your left
just a little ways past the school.

If you're flying into Houston Hobby Airport on the south side of
Houston, you could stop in at Stitchcraft in Bellaire (a pocket city
inside of Houston). Take the I-610 loop west and north, exit at
Bellaire, turn left (west) under the freeway. Stay in the left-hand lane
and make a slight left where the road forks at a traffic light. You'll
need to be in the left turn lane, but it's only about a 45 degree turn,
not a right angle turn. The shop will be on your right about half a
block down from there in the Bellaire Triangle shopping center.

The three shops above are all closed on Sundays and Mondays, and I'm
pretty sure are open 10-5 other days.

Harbour Stitchery in League City is also a nice shop, but would be a bit
more out of your way as it's off of I-45 about 30 miles south of
downtown Houston. It's hours are the same as the others, except for
being open on Mondays and closed on Wednesdays.

When will you be here?

June in Houston

Shops near Houston, TX?

Hi, Lesa,

IMHO, there aren't any "not-to-be-missed" LNSs in the Houston area, although
there are several good ones.  I checked a map and it looks like Weches is
north of Houston.  Not sure if you'll be driving up I-45 or Hwy. 59, but if
you take I-45 north then Stitches & More would be very easy to get to since
it's about a mile east of I-45 on Spring Cypress Rd.  And if you have more
shopping time, then from I-45 go west on Louetta (about 10 miles) to 3
Stitches.   And in between those two is Needlearts, which is primarily
needlepoint and knitting.

Enjoy your stay here!

Shops near Houston, TX?

Well, there's Stitchcraft in Bellaire, 3 Stitches in Spring, and Harbor
Stitchery in League City. (Strange how all the shops are in little suburbs, not
it Houston itself.)
I know there are others. Pam at 3 Stitches frequently has trunk shows and
seminars. I would call her if you wanted to stage an "event". I seem to recall
seeing some of your work there in her hardanger section.

Other Houston area stitchers will probably give you some good advice as well. I
will try to e-mail you some addresses later this week. (Don't have my book
handy.)
