Hi All -

I am interested in receiving crochet or knit patterns that were published
50 or more years ago.  If anyone has such patterns and would be willing
to share it would be deeply appreciated.....especially baby patterns.

Thanks!

Fran

There used to be a really interesting publication called "Old Time
Crochet Patterns", and it specialized in just what you're looking for.
I believe it was published by the House of White Birches group - the
same ones who put out "Crochet World", "Knitting World", etc. I don't
know if it's still on the stands or not, but I have some copies that I
could Xerox and send to you if you like. If you're interested, send me
and email and we can work out the details.

Dear  Ruth Ann and others who love very old knit/crochet patterns.

Good news! CROCHET WORLD is still in print. KNITTING WORLD is now KNITTING DIGEST and CROCHET
DIGEST has been added, I write and design for all three of them. I have a passion for very old patterns. My
collection begins with 1868, yes, I said "18".  I have about half of all the 10 cent knit/crochet books printed by
Coats & Clark and Star and boy, did they love publishing baby "anythings." I also have some from the turn of
the century.

To start your own collection, visit garage sales and thrift shops, that's where I found most of my stuff, usually in
bundles of more than one magazine. Next, look at the ads in the magazines mentioned above. There are
several older ladies who search out and buy these for their collections and sell their duplicates. I bought about
30 this way, most in excellent condition from 1920-1950. I have made a list of my numbers and titles to help
you search.

Also I just finished an article for PIECEWORK about the source and development of knitting needles & crochet
hooks in the U.S. to be published late in 1995. For 1996, I'm working on the history of the 10 cent books, what
a task but fun, fun!  See my bit in the current issue about (believe it or not!) crocheted/knitted dish-cloths. For
those as "dippy" as I about old patterns, how about crocheted water-bottle covers, pen wipes, solf-boiled egg
crocheted nets, suspenders and lacy slippers to hold bon-bons while you sit at "Lady's Toilet Table?"

Since this is a newsgroup, and I'm trying to be a good citizen albeit new to Internet, anyone interested can
either check out my Web site listed below under "article reprints" and patterns or Email me personally to work
out details of making photo-copies.
