META: Number of posts in 2002 on Rctn.

It is that time of year that I check on how many posts we generated
on rctn during the current year, 2002.  The number is about 54,000.  For
comparison, here are similar figures for the previous years where I have data.

1997  78,000  1998 83,000  1999  80,000  2000  82,000   2001  70,000

So, in round terms, there are about 150 messages per day that I
receive.  My observation is that my ISP gets the vaste majority of rctn
messages.  There are only a very few that I seem to miss.  My ISP seems to
keep about a week's worth of messages.  HTH.

My ISP keeps all messages numbered from 1 to now around 550,000.  So
all I have to do is record the number I saw today, and subtract from it
the number I recorded one year ago.  Total time, about 1 minute.  So it
really does not detract from stitching time.

Um.. I'd say yes, a good thing.  Wasn't 2000 the year that some folks
decided to see if they could make the top 100 list and see how far they
could make the ng climb?  A *lot* of the posts were short and did
nothing but add to the number of posts to wade through every day...
(like "hello... adding another" types.  Don't miss that at all.  If
there have to be a lot of OT posts, I don't mind... as long as they're
worthwhile to *some* readers, not just the poster, or just for the number.

I think they are slipping because more and more people are either lurking or
leaving because of the nastiness and increasing amount of political and
religious discussions.
