Hi Guys,
Well, my family had a LOT to be Thankful for yesterday!  The EXCELLENT news
from DD is that Steven is out of ICU, in a regular acute care room, has the
drain frmoved from his head, opened his eyes and ***looked*** at and recognized
DD, smiles, hugged and kissed her, tried to write with pencil and paper (just
scribbles but that's OK at this point), breathed on his own for about 12 hours
and "talked" a lot.  He can't make much more than a heavy breath when he tries
to talk but DD could read his lips and managed to answer all of the questions
he had.  He is starting to move his left side purposefully and when asked so
THAT is a relief too!
The Evil MIL is **finally** being relatively civil.  She and DD had a VERY
"heated" discussion Monday and she blamed DD for everything to which comment DD
just laughed!  The EMIL told DD that HER son was perfect and that no one in the
world was good enough to be married to him and in the same breath she said she
didn't feel welcome in DD's home (well, DUH)!  The EMIL told DD that she and
her Dh managed to raise 2 kids with NO help at all and didn't think DD was
justified to be expecting so much help with the baby!!  When I was there last
week,  she told DD that she wouldn't stay home and watch the baby while HER son
was in hospital.  VBS, that horrid woman is absolutely beyond description --
saying she is self-centered and unbelievably selfish is just a start!   DD told
the EMIL that she was a bitter, unhappy person and she was sorry the EMILs life
had been terrible as a child.  NONE of that gave the EMIL to try and make
others as miserably unhappy as she seemed to be -- it was the EMIL's problem
and she should learn to deal with it and quit trying to make the rest of the
family as unhappy as she seemed to be!!
After DD asked point blank for help picking the baby up from daycare (this
was last Friday), the EMIL (who had already told DD that she would go home on
Tuesday an return Thursday for Thanksgiving) said she would stay in the valley
after Thanksgiving to help since DD must work until 6:30 PM.  Then, on Monday
as a prelude to the "heated" discussion, the B*TCH (who knows I don't return
until 13 December) tells DD that she absolutely **must** go home (about 2.5
hours away) by 01 December so that she could decorate for Christmas!!   With
her son -- who is VERY lucky to be alive -- laying in hospital, this woman is
worried about decorating for the holidays -- VBS!   DD asked why the big rush
to get the house decorated and the EMIL says that she wants it perfect for when
Steven and everyone comes up for Christmas Eve!  She thought he would be out of
hospital and ready to drive 2.5 hours into the mountains just to spend
Christmas Eve with his mommy!  Did I also say that this woman doesn't have a
CLUE as to the seriousness of Steven's condition?!?!?  Hell's Bells, DD and I
are praying that he will be well enough by Christmas to be transferred to a
rehab facility and we can take Baby R to visit him!!!!
Anyway, I was telling DH all of this while speaking with DD (this was on
Tuesday).  DH will be in Lizard Land next week on business and he said that he
would pick the SMDGD up from day care and take care of her until DD gets home
from work.  He was supposed to return home on a 2:30 PM flight on Friday but he
changed his return until Saturday (at a cost to his company of $100) so that DD
doesn't have to worry about the baby that day.  He will check out of the hotel
(5 min from the job) and stay at DD's (45 min from the job) to save the company
the $$ he had to spend to change his airline tickets.
On Wednesday evening, DD phones me to say she has had a hysterical call from
the EMIL.  She is crying, weeping, NAY sobbing hysterically and saying how
sorry she was that she had been so mean to DD!  She was totally abject in her
apologies to DD and said she would stay after T-day for as long as DD needed.
To which DD answered that she had arranged for volunteers to cook and serve
dinner at work on Mon & Tue so that she (DD) could leave early to pick up the
baby AND *HER* Dad was going to pick up the baby the rest of the week.  The
EMIL could GO HOME as soon after T-Day as she wanted and begin her decorating.
DD told her that "baby pickup" help was needed the week of 06 December and then
HER Mom would be there until at least New Year's Eve to do **whatever** DD
neded help with!
To make matters worse, poor Steven KNOWS there is something wrong --
probably because the EMIL cursed at DD while they were in the room with him!
The EMIL wouldn't leave DD alone in the room with Steven so I whispered in her
ear that DD needed some time alone with him and then I walked out of the room.
That *really* pissed off the EMIL and that is when she cursed at DD and left
the room in a huff!  At least DD finally got to have a few minutes alone with
her DH!!  Anyway, Steven asked Louise (DD's best friend) how things were with
is Mom & Christen and Louise said OK.  He then asked DD and she told him there
had been a little rough spot but things were OK now.
I can guarantee you that DD WILL tell Steven about this *when* he is well
enough to deal with it.  The part that REALLY hurt DD was that the EMIL
wouldn't help with the baby!   That is the only thing DD has asked for help
with and I really don't think she is asking too much.  She must work and that
means cooking and serving dinner for 2 or 3 dozen people each evening.  Dinner
is served at 6:00 PM and the earliest DD can leave is 6:30 PM.  She will ask at
day care to see if there are any days it would be possible to pick up the baby
about 7:00 PM.  Since it will likely be many, many months before Steven is well
enough to drive and be able to pick up the SMDGD, DD doesn't want to ask to
leave her at day care until absolutely necessary.
OK -- that's my story and I am sticking to it :-).  IF there is anyone who
has managed to wade through this story until the bitter end, you have earned a
big thank you from MOI.  I can tell you, all of my friends here get to hear
chapter and verse of the EMIL saga every day -- LOLOL!  The more I tell it, the
less angry I feel.  Hopefully, I won't rip the twit a new ***orifice when
next I see her.  I CAN guarantee that one of thes days I WILL do so but not
until Steven is much, much better.  I'm just so thankful -- as is everyone in
the family -- that he is doing so well.  It is just 2 weeks this evening since
he had his AVM (which I finally learned is an Arterio-Venous Malformation).  It
has seemed more like 2 months for us and probably longer for him.  But, as his
nurse said to DD  yesterday, Steven is in the home stretch.  CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I'm SOOOOOOOOo glad to hear that Steven is doing so much better!  He
definitely doesn't need the stress of having his mother and his wife
fighting, so I completely agree with your daughter's plan to keep this
from him until he's doing better.  And feel free to rip the EMIL a new
orifice... she sounds like she absolutely needs one!!!!

Glad to hear Steven is better.

Too bad EMIL won't behave. She probably DIDN'T understand the seriousness of
Steven's condition. Someone must have explained it to her in terms she finally
understood, and it probably knocked her off the centre of her personal
universe.

I hope that was the case!  The sudden about-face she made is so
shocking that its almost funny from over here outside the circle.

Needless to say, neither DD nor MOI trusts the fool as far as we could throw
her.  She's being nice now because she probably realized how upset Steven would
be if DD told him about all of this.  By being nice, she thinks DD will
"forgive and forget" and not say anything to Steven.  WRONG!  Nothing will be
said until he is able to deal with it but he WILL be told.
I firmly believe that the woman is too self-centered and jealous of her son
to be able to willingly share him with anyone -- and she has said the same!  As
a result, I don't think she can really love the baby!  I mean, Raechel IS
another female who will get between her and her precious son and try to
separate them as she accused DD of wanting to do!  SICK old woman to say the
least.  If a father was to say those things and behave in that manner as
regards his daughter, he would be jailed tout sweet!   Evil, mean, horrid
woman!!!!!!  CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I'm glad Steven is improving and I wish him a full recovery.  I did have a
friend some years back who had an aneurysm like his at age 70 and lived to
return to square dancing.  She has since died of old age when she was close
to 90 so it seemed her recovery really was complete.

As to the EMIL, don't make too many waves now because she may be needed to
clean the house or maybe cook a meal for them for, yikes, baby sit.  There
will be plenty of time later when things are calmer to put her soundly in
her place.

Lucille

Tia Mary, you can tell her you know someone (me) whose brother died from
AVM. He was out for a walk in his beloved Arizona desert when the AVM
just exploded. They didn't find him for 4 days...

You and she are truly blessed. You know it; she doesn't! ("Twit" is too
mild a word; I'd be tempted to change the vowel.)

I'm a ***y bit jealous that Steven made it. But that is WAY outweighed
by my joy for you and gratitude to God.

I understand completely and wish things had been different for your brother.
I thank the powers that be on a daily basis -- we are a truly blessed family.
There have been so many instances where in the past where something *could*
have been much worse but wasn't.
Then again, we have had our tragedies like any other family.  I wish I could
have seen my DBro before he died suddenly (while driving home from work on the
L.A. freeway) from the same heart ailment that killed John Ritter.  I would
**REALLY** have liked to been able to do something to help my older sister deal
with her pain so that she wouldn't have committed suicide.  Perhaps Steven's
good fortune is balancing the scales of pain our family felt dealing with those
two grievous losses.  Who knows?  I just know that we have so much to be
grateful for!
All of that being said, I got a call from DD last evening after her visit to
see Steven.  She was laughing and and teling me how ornery he was being but he
was truly on the road to recovery.  He wanted to get out of bed and when she
refused to help him (he's not allowed out of bed yet), he flipper her off --
LOLOL!  AHHHH -- now I know he'll soon be back to normal :-)) -- at least in
spirit!!!!!!  CiaoMeow >^;;^<
