Mrs. Lynde's bedspreads

Post by Egshark » Mon, 01 Dec 1997 04:00:00

I've been rereading the Anne of Green Gables series and am wondering about the
"cotton warp" spreads Mrs. Lynde gave Anne on her marriage.  Two were called
"tobacco stripe" and "apple leaf".  Does anyone know where I could obtain the
patterns, or a source for them, or even have any ideas about where to look?
Several of us are interested in starting (yet another) project with these
patterns (or at least hoarding them for "someday"!!!).  My e-mail address is

They are probably woven spreads, using old patterns.  You might try the
library for books on weaving, especially those that show old patterns
and methods.

Mrs. Lynde's bedspreads

I apologize if this is a duplicate post but I don't see it listed.

I've been rereading Anne of Green Gables et al and am curious about the "cotton
warp" bedspreads (?) given to Anne by Mrs. Lynde for her wedding.  Does any one
know if there are patterns for these available and if so, where?  If not, does
anyone have any ideas for possible sources?

Any suggestions appreciated!

Eileen

These are most likely to have been woven in Overshot style in the traditional
manner i.e. White cotton warp and indigo dyed wool weft. I have looked through
my books but cannot find either of the patterns but possibly someone else may
have access to more information and could come up with them. Be aware that
some of the old patterns had more than one name and in some cases different
names were used for the same pattern in different areas. Good luck with your
search.

Since Anne of Green Gables is set in P.E.I. .... Maybe someone from there would
be able to help.
