Ot I am feeling good about THAT

Post by Mirjam Bruck-Coh » Wed, 02 Nov 2005 15:33:53

Yesterday i ahd another Supposedly New weaver call it off and i feel
GOOD about it ..... I will explain why ??? over the years i get women
calling me that they want /need to learn weaving , i invited them over
showed some works asked what they knew, worked out a private teaching
plan for each ,,,Zeroxed lent books etc...... obnly to find that from
each 10 , only one will stay on ..... over the time i even worked out
which are the one who will saty on , and i just became tired of
starting a new , wasting several hours on the first [ non paid]
meeting.......Thus last year i worked out a new method i still invite
them over for a non paid meeting , but i cut it to no more than 2
hours, enough to speak hear etc,,, than i lend them a Frame ,on which
i have already put a warp ,,,, and tell them to go play ,, sorry weave
a bit on the Ready made warp on this frame , and come back when they
made up their mind ,,,,,, GOOOOOOOD , i haven`t lost the real
enthousiasts ,,,,,, but the non serious ones keep the frame at home
and bring it back empty ,,,,,,, they usually tell me they Reconsidered
it is Not Really what they thought it would be ?????? Now what did
they think ????? Beats me ??? it is too time consuming !!!!![ no
kidding]  Too Tedious !!! [ ????? what they haven`t even touched it
??] .... Thus yesterday my frame is back home again ,,,, empty , and
the woman asks me not to be angry !! [ Angry ??? i am GLAD .....]
By the one of my serious ones ,,, started weaving , decided this
process wasn`t whatshe wanted , [ But she tried and actually Filled
the frame ,, Could i advise another technique ,,, and after trying
this and that ,,,we now have a Budding HAPPPPPPY ne crocheter ,, who
really enjoys crocheting , and tells me she is so happy she tried all
the other techniques , she plans to do basket coiling and knoitting as
well ....

Mirjam I can see why you are so glad - it must have been very frustrating to
go to all that trouble for people who just did not care.    Now you can
enjoy the ones that do  God  bless Gwen

Thank you Gwen i needed this encouraging words from you .
On the one hand i really enjoy and love to teach , but i also hate
wasting my good time and aquired knowledge on a person , like the last
one ,, who actually said ....... are you all sitting ?
"i thought i could weave a rag like the one i saw in Turkey, in
several hours!!!! , "

Ah, so she learned something anyway.  Now maybe she will appreciate
the rugs and other craft work a little more.

And if you get one in ten really doing a craft, that's a very good
average.  From what I hear, one in six*** is a more common success
rate.

I do find it funny that people think weaving is too tedious, when
weaving is one of the fastest ways to product a fabric.  Compared
to knitting a tight fabric with the same gauge thread, weaving
goes like lightning.

I can feel your frustration, Mirjam, and understand it completely. I wish I
lived near you, and I would come learn to weave.

Yes, Mirjam, I totally DO understand.
I had a student who wanted a complete refund for beginning knitting, but
wanted to KEEP the needles and yarn and text that was included.  So am sure
you can understand MY frustration!
