OT: anyone having trouble with AOL

I have been having a lot of trouble with AOL lately.  I am not able to get to
the RCTN sometimes...but mostly I get the message that they can not connect
with the server at this time?  Just curious if this is local due to phone
company or AOL problem everywhere?  Ardie

It's everywhere, Ardie.  Sometimes it's only the Usenet Newsgroups, sometimes
it's only the message areas on AOL; sometimes it's both; sometimes it's only
certain message areas on AOL.  As for causes:  sometimes it's the local access
company; sometimes it's AOL (I had a lot of trouble here in CA back when they
had a huge hurricane in AOL's home territory on the east coast).  Sometimes
it's AOL working on ("upgrading" they call it) areas.  Sometimes, particularly
this time of year and until about the end of this month, it's the Winter
Holidays backlash--all those new 'puters with AOL on 'em!  Hang in there.

I've not had any problems lately.  In fact, I very rarely seem to have the
problems other people complain about.  I wonder if a lot of the problems are
sometimes with the local access numbers?

Could it be your server?

My son tells me he has had trouble browsing the web the last few days--AOL lets
him connect but he couldn't do anything after that--error messages etc.   So
far so good--today :-]

Could also be another casualty of spam--I think a lot of AOL folks have
their account set to refuse mail from anyone not on their accept-mail-from
list.  Folks on AOL are subject to tremendous amounts of spam, especially
if they venture into a chat room.

I don't really have these server problems (Dallas, TX).  Problems could occur
because of 1)the number of modems for access in your area vs. the number of
users trying to connect at one time, 2)time of day, 3)Internet traffic.  Oh,
and also because AOL might be "upgrading" at that time.

My current problems are with the random bumping me off the connection.  I'm
hoping they get this solved pretty quickly.

I had a lot of problem with that yesterday (March 9) but attributed that to all
our snow (greater DC area). Seems to be ok today.
