Having problem with Jamie yarn

Hi everyone,

Well, I bought the Jamie three ply baby yarn and started the baby sweater last
night. The problem I am having is that it splits so easy that it doesn't look
really nice. Am I doing something wrong. I am using the I hook that it calls
for as I did do a guage sample. What is funny is I have bought another book
with baby sweaters and all of them call for an F and G size hook.  Maybe I'll
take the yarn back and see about getting some Red Heart yarn. Any suggestions
would be appreciated.

I went to my yarn pile and pulled out Jamie solid color - which suggests
G hook or #5 needles and it never split on me. The verigated Jamie
suggests G hook or #6 needles and never split on me either. Maybe you
got a bad batch? My leftovers are two yrs. old and the plys are tight -
not loose and apt to split. Check the Jamie in another store and see if
theirs is loose or tight. That'd be so frustrating working with the
loose one's.

Sometimes splitting is caused by the work method. I use the underhand
method, and I get a fair amount of splitting, whereas, my mother uses the
pencil method and she has no trouble at all.

Sometimes it's enough to just try a different brand of hook with a slightly
different head shape. For me, the Susan Bates hooks tend to cause more
splitting than the Boye, but on some projects nothing will do but to switch
back to the Susan Bates, or one of my fancy Brittany needles.

Well, what I did was take the yarn back to the store. I tried on two different
types of hooks and had the same thing happen. I checked all the skeins I had
bought (12) and they were all loosely twisted. Maybe that is why they were on
sale for $.89 a skein. I'll try a practice square with some Red Heart 3 ply
that I already have.
