Where would you like to see CATS in 2002?

Post by Juli » Fri, 11 Aug 2000 04:00:00

Hi,

I wrote to CATS a few months ago asking about locations for 2001.  I was
hoping for there to be one in a Northwest location since I live in Alberta,
Canada.  I was told that they were looking into it, I received the locations
for 2001 yesterday and unfortunately for me (and I'm sure others) all the
shows are in the same places.

I'm just wondering if there aren't other stitchers out there that would like
to go to a show but find the distances too much?  I was thinking if we could
all join together and send them emails about what we'd like to see maybe it
would help when they plan their locations for 2002.  Of course I'm biased
and would love to know how many other stitcher's would be interested in
something in the Northwest?

For those that are interested here are the locations and dates for 2002

Dallas/Ft Worth, TX - February 15-17, 2001 - Hyatt/DFW Airport
Atlanta, GA - March 22-24, 2001 - Georgia International
Convention Center
Denver, CO - May 3-5, 2001 - Holiday Inn/Denver International
Airport
Riverside, CA - August 16-18, 2001 - Riverside Convention
Center
Valley Forge, PA - September 20-22, 2001 - Valley Forge
Convention Center
Minneapolis, MN - November 8-10, 2001 - Mystic Lake
Conference Center

Hi!
I just wanted to make sure that everyone knows the CATS 2002 show locations and
dates have not been set yet.  I'm sure Juli meant 2001 instead of 2002.   Jan

Hi Juli!
I spoke with Cathy and she told me that they did check in your area and close
by for a CATS location.  Everything was just too expensive.  I know this is
unfortunate.  I wish there was a show to accommodate everyone.  It would be
nice if you could plan a "special trip" just to one of the shows.   Jan  :-)

Well, Juli,
I think you and Debra and Beth should fly to Winnipeg and then we can all
drive down to Minneapolis together!! I have been going to SOCS and CATS for
a total of 6 years, including this year. I used to drive to Iowa for SOCS
(12 hours) and now I drive 8 to Mpls - but it is well worth the trip!!

Linn,

Is the Atlanta one going to be at the same place next year?I was
hoping that they would just move to a better hotel location.
The one they had is really bad to get to and is not on a bus line
so that lets out some people trying to come in that way--and they
wondered why attendance was low. I live in Atlanta and did the
show as a dealer and it was bad.

I didn't have a chance to introduce myself when you were doing
your make and take it classes. I really admire your blackwork.

Hi Vickey:

I understand the Atlanta fest will be at a new location.  There are
apparently mixed feelings about the location.  I've been to the Galleria two
years with them and have to say it is a beautiful location, but we didn't
seem to have as many attendees as we would like.

Hi, BB...I'm not Linn, but I can answer your question.  The ATL CATS
will *not* be at the same location.  It's going to be close to the
airport, in a not-as-nice facility (IMHO).  However, I would disagree
with you about the Galleria (this year's location) being difficult to
get to...it's only one turn and about 100 yards from the highway by
car, with many back ways to get there that are less traffic-ridden.
Where do you live?  And there *is* easy bus access to the
Galleria...CCT (Cobb Country Transport bus) drops off at least as close
as the other end of the Galleria Mall (connected to the Convention
Center), and that bus goes directly to the Arts Center MARTA station.

I'm with you. I live in Saskatchewan and would love to be able to attend
one.
Not much of a chance I'll be able to attend at any of those locations

Well, if you can get yourselves down to Atlanta, you can come stay at my house
:-))).  I do have 4 bedrooms & 3 full baths and it's just me & DH & the babies.
And the ba***t will be in pretty fair shape by that time next year I hope so
someone could sleep down there too -- have a queen size sofa bed down there
:-))).  oF course, this offer is not open to ax ***ers, thievves, muggers,
rapists or mad scientisti.  Well, maybe the mad scientists would be acceptable
but none of those other horrid types!!!  And, I am QUITE serious about the
offer -- just ask my stitchin' buddy -- she'll tell you I do strange stuff like
this all the time :-))).  Personally, I think a group of you Canadian stitchers
should get together and all drive down together sharing the driving and the
hotels as necessary on the way -- make a regular holiday out of it!!! CiaoMeow

What about a computer mad person. Would that be allowed...??? There are only
2 braincells difference between me and the mad scientist... A mad scientist
likes to experiment with body parts and I like to experiment with
computers... so if you here of a computer with a real brain, you it is me...
naaaah, not really... just having a joke here at my own expense...<VBG>

Anyway... I assume Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde are not welcome either...

And Norman isn't either... zjing... zjing.... zjing... zjing... (from the

Of course it was an invitation :-) -- and a serious one too!!!  But if
someone wants to come stay at my house, they better either post enough so that
I know who they are, or start an e-mail correspondence with me!  I might be
dumb but I ain't stoopid -- I certainly won't let someone I am not familiar
with come stay and put my babies in danger!!
Computer mad scientists are welcome.  I might have to draw the line at mad
vivisectionist scientists but most others would be welcome -- LOL!  And I am
not too worried about Norman Bates showing up.  His Momma probably wouldn't let
him leave home for that long!!  LOLOLOL.   CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Sacramento!  I still have fond memories of all those SOCS shows at the
Sacramento Convention Center, and the beautiful Hyatt next door.  I
think that hotel is one of the nicest in California, and very
inexpensive, considering.  I always requested a room overlooking the
Capitol, and I always got it!

I live in Southern California, so Sacramento is definitely not the most
convenient location.  But somehow, to me, it has an ambience more
congenial to needlework than Ontario or Long Beach or (gasp!) Riverside
in August!  I believe those SOCS shows in Sacramento in the mid-90's
were among the most successful and well-attended shows at the time.  No
Southern California show that I know of has done so well since.  Maybe
I'm just longing for the good old days, but Sacramento in October
(please, not in August) - that would be terrific.

Caroline, where are you in SK?  Two years ago, someone from SK drove to
Bismarck, and we drove to Des Moines SOXS together.  I see that CATS
2001 in Minneapolis is scheduled for November, and travel can be a bit
"iffy" at that time of year, but you might keep a car pool in mind.  I'm
also aware of at least one person in Winnipeg who goes to CATS, and
there may be others in ND who might be able to help out.

*79* - and with high humidity)
