My husband's grandparents 50th anniversary is in June.  I promised I
would do something for the anniversary.  But I can't find anything I
like.  It doesn't necessarily have to be an anniversary specific thing,
but whatever it is, I would like it to be VERY nice.  Not too
feminine--for grandpa's sake :-)

Ideas?  Please oh please oh please oh please!

Thanks,
Melinda Montgomery

There's a book by Stoney Creek on FAMILY - can't remember the exact name or
book number - saw it at JoAnn's the other day (during their floss sale
(read-stash building)).

There are a lot of charts you could modify - other than that - what about a
wedding sampler?

how about finding things from the year they were married, or special
events in their life.  you might even consider making them a family
tree.

cannot remember the color for 50th use that as colors for the roses and or
ribbons and then put the information in the center........

Melinda,

My PIL's 50th Anniversary is in December.  Have decided to
stitch a family tree for them.  This would not only
recognize them but their "accomplishments" as well.

Looked for a long time for a pattern (they have 4 kids, 10
gdkids and 3 ggrdkids - I want to put them all in!!).  Found
one this weekend!!!  It's the "Family Tree" design from
Hollie Designs.  If you want more info, let me know!

Good luck!  Anything you do will be greatly appreciated, I
am sure.  Not many can give the gift you can!

In stitches,

Sherri

Melinda,
I can think of two designs by Maureen Appleton that are beautiful.  The
first one is Rose Marriage Sampler Leaflet No 1.  The second is Fl***
Heart Leaflet No 12.  They are both stitched over one but look fine if
stitched over two.  The XS store nearest you should be able to order
them or you can call The Heart's Content and get them directly from
Ms. Appleton's co.  Her number is (414)494-9434.  Her designs are some
of my favorites.  Good luck to you in finding a design for your in-laws
anniversary.  50 years wow!

Melinda,

I'll second Laura's vote on the Rose Marriage Sampler.  It is beautiful
and I think it would be doable in the time frame you mentioned.

Melinda,

Charland Designs has several wonderful charts for small samplers.  Many
of them are grouped into themes like "Tokens of the Heart" or "Seasons
of the Heart".  Their not very large and whip up in no time, but their
lovely.  They have rows of specialty stitches and often a little
charm/token as well as a saying.  I did one for my husband before
leaving on a research trip that said:

My heart is glad because of thee.

There are others.  I'm doing a little wedding sampler one for a friend
of my mum's that says:

Joined in Love ... followed by their names and dates.  This one could
easily be adapted to show the date of the wedding with the year and then
the anniversary year as well.  It uses some specialty threads and is
pretty without being overly feminine.

Dear Melinda,

Have you considered the beaded sampler by Blue Bell Cottage....done with
ivory silk on ivory linen, using ivory pearl beads with gold accents,
this project is elegant, brings in the tradition of the Golden Wedding
Anniversery, is not fussy or feminine, and would become a family
heirloom....additionally, it is not a huge project, and would assure
being finished in time for framing and then presenting in June...email
me if interested.  The Rose Sampler, by Hearts Content, is one that I
did for son and DIL----very, very time consuming, slow stitching, but
truely wonderful.  I do take exception with the comment re. ignoring the
instructions to work one over one, and it would be equally nice...not
so!  I framed one done this way by a client, and the general concensus
amoung the framers, shoppe folk, and customers was that it was choppy,
unimpressive, and essentially, had lost it' magic!

Needles, AYE!
