Hello,
I am secretary to and raise money for a disabled children's charity, and we
had a major collection outside Cardiff Arms Park after an international
rugby match recently. Along with a pile of cash and various tokens, Lire
and unidentified objects, there was a small silver-looking coin, a little
smaller than the current GB 5 pence (i.e. diameter around 1cm). It was
dated 1844, and had the inscription "FOUR PENCE". I have been informed
that this is a Groat. We have no coin collectors that we know, and so I
was wondering if someone could suggest how much it was worth and what to
do with it. I hate to reduce things to their monetary value, but the
collection was for charity, and so we need to convert it into legal
tender at some stage!
Thanks for any help,
Dave.
