For the research-impaired, here's the original material that started RCC
- LONG before google was even conceived:

Path: uunet!not-for-mail

                 RESULT
             unmoderated group rec.collecting.coins passes 263:11

There were 263 YES votes and 11 NO votes, for a total of 274 valid
votes.
There was 1 abstain and 18 invalid ballots.

For group passage, YES votes must be at least 2/3 of all valid (YES and
NO)
votes.   There also must be at least 100 more YES votes than NO votes.

There is a five day discussion period after these results are posted.
If no
serious allegations of voting irregularities are raised, the moderator of
news.announce.newgroups will create the group shortly thereafter.

Newsgroups line:
rec.collecting.coins Coin, currency, medal, etc. collecting forum.

list.

This vote is being conducted by a neutral third party.  For voting

For questions about the proposed group contact John Hamkins

Purpose
-------
rec.collecting.coins will be for the discussion of all things related
to coin collecting, including but not necessarily limited to currency,
medal, token, and pattern collecting.  It will be unmoderated, and
distributed worldwide.

Rationale
---------
Currently, there is no newsgroup devoted to discussion of coin
collecting.  rec.collecting is too general a forum to hold the interest
of many coin collectors.  A mailing list with 240 subscribers already

a day or more to be posted to the mailing list, and several people have
unsubscribed because handling the mail became too burdensome.

Given the success of similar groups rec.collecting.stamps and
rec.collecting.cards, we believe that rec.collecting.coins also
deserves its own group.

Charter
-------
rec.collecting.coins will be for the discussion of all things related
to coin collecting.  Suitable topics will include:

o Tokens, currency, pattern, medal collecting
o News relevant to coin collecting
o Grading
o Cleaning
o Upcoming coin shows/programs
o History behind coins
o How not to get ripped off by dealers, mail order places, etc.
o Book reviews
o Rare finds in circulating currency
o Questions about particular coins-- identifying, appraising, etc.
o Offers for trades, price lists, auctions

Hey!  That's TEN YEARS AGO this summer!!  Wow...  I have a great idea,
guys: How about if we get an ANA membership for RCC so we can have a
Tenth Anniversary Party at the Pittsburgh Convention.

Guys?.... guys?.... anyone there?....

Well, the previously-scheduled summer swap can now be rechristened the ten-year
anniversary swap, and it's up to Gary Lewis to pay the dues to reestablish the
rcc club for the Pittsburgh Convention.

If he'll renew our membership, I'll buy the cake.

Tom

Plus, I know some of these people. They'll want two slices each. With ice cream.

Lurkers like to stay lurkers.  IIRC, there were about 10 of us at the
meeting at the NYC ANA a few years ago.

Seems like about that number or maybe just a few more in Atlanta a few
years back too.

Not a problem.  I'm gonna start a rumor that a process server is lurking in the
meeting room.  I'll have the whole cake to myself!

I hate to bring up a horse that I beat after it had been executed by
several members here, but didn't we already celebrate the 20th
anniversary of RCC a couple of years ago with a token?  Hmmm...  Makes
you think.

Guess which RCC token I didn't bother buying?
