The pictures are in the Redbook. If you don't have one you might want to take a
ride to the Guilford Coin Exchange (on the green)....I believe that's
relatively close to your neck of the woods.

Or you can get one at any good sized bookstore.

I've replied to Paul with a photo of the type 2 mm.  If anyone wants a copy of
the pic, you can see one on any of my ebay auctions that are selling the 1981
type 2 SBA or simply email me & I'll send you a copy of the mm scan with a
brief explanation of what to look for.

The key difference between the two 1981-S proof mintmarks is:

The Type I has both upper and lower loops symetrical, or "perfect circles."

The Type II has a perfect circle lower loop, but the upper loop is distorted,
elongated, and flat at the top of the curve, so it is not a perfect circle. You
are never going to see this with the unaided eye, unless you have 60/20 vision,
so use at least a 10X lens when looking at them.

Alan's 1982 description and a 10X have made me Thousand$ over the last 18
years...mostly just looking over dealers' stocks at coin shows. Unfortunately,
they're mostly gone now as Alan told EVERYBODY...dang it!

I still read his stuff hopin' for another thousand$$$$$ idea...but this time
I'm gonna ask him not ta tell anybody else...

And keep blabbing, Alan.  I for one have learned a lot about errors from you
in the last few months.  Thanks!
