I can only suggest the program that I use. It is called COIN ELITE and is
distributed by Trove Software. If you would like to contact them, they can be
reached at (913) 829-8687.
It is a very good program and will handle all categories of coins, from world
coins thru regular issues to commemoratives. It has a built in Inventory
control, Summary of coins owned, Prints reports, collection control, and
reference/pricing guide.
I have my entire collection listed on this program and it is very simple to use.
You also get any updates to pricing every year, thru the Tech support
division......for free. The program cost me $40 when I bought it about 5 years
ago, it can't be much more than that know, I wouldn't think.
Give them a call and they will explain it to you in detail, they are very small
friendly company.

I forgot to say that in the COIN ELITE, it has a really nice grading program. It
shows in detail how each coin is graded as to condition from GOOD thru PROOF. I
have nothing to do with this company, except that I am a very happy customer.

They give a URL in their ads for a webpage at the Coin Universe site, but the
link has not worked for more than two weeks...I've been trying to connect. I
e-mailed coin Universe about it but haven't received a reply.

There are two prices for the program....$79 with built-in values and $59
without. I believe there is a less functional version called Coin Elite Jr. for
$25. They also have databases available for countries other than the US.

The program now comes on CD and has grading pictures scanned at 2000 dpi in 16M
colors for grades AG3 thru MS.

I have the newset version also because of the fact I bought mine so long ago that

When selecting coin software, you should consider several factors.

1.) What do you collect?  Like accounting systems, software products can
sometimes change the way you do business and they shouldn't.

2.) Is the data portable.  By that I mean that you should be able to export the
data to some other database in the future.

3.) What information do you want to track?  If the answer to that question is
small, then a spreadsheet may be the answer, if on the other hand you want to
track every coin, who you bought it from and details such as when you sold it,
the enscription on each coin, and a photo of each coin, then you will need a
database.

4.) Consider how many coins are in or will be in your collection.  If you
collect world coins, than this could be thousands and a spreadsheet will be
slow to load and cumbersom to work with.

5.) Look at the product's life cycle and installed base.  A popular product may
be around longer and have fewer problems than some new thing just released.

6.) I believe that ANA distributes some share-ware products which can be
obtained for a small fee -- check out the ANA web site.

7.) Whenever possible and practical, you should test-drive a product to see how
it fits with your collection, ease of use, and obtaining the results you want.
A number of vendors offer free trial packages.  You may find that you will
learn more about what you want when you start using a product.

8.)You should take your time and evaluate several alternatives before jumping
into a specific product.  You'll be a lot happier in the long run.

Hope this helps
Ken

You can try software from Liberty Street and it's free.  Go to
http://www.libertystreet.com
and download the program.  You can purchase other programs there but their
free version works well.

The way I understand it, this is a demo version only good for 30 days. It
might be a great program, I don't know, because i'm not going to dwnld it to
investigate, I already have CoinElite. But nothing is for free, you always pay
one way or the other.

Kristina,

Yes CoinElite allows you to scan your coins and then add them to your
inventory. You scan your coins with any twain scanner directly from within
CE.The scanner feature is called Image Editing Program. You simply scan,
save to a file, name it and add it to your program as usual.

I'm using the 30 day trial of CoinManage right now and I really like it
but scanning images of both sides of my coins is a little tricky.
Actually, I have yet to figure it out. Does anyone know if Coin Elite
allows you to scan images of your coins - both sides?

Thanks!
Kristina Picha

Our Free program, CoinManage Lite, is no longer available from our site.  You
can still download it from ZDNet (http://www.hotfiles.com).  We took it off
our site because it is starting to look very dated.  We now have a 30-day demo
available from our site,  it includes all the features and data of the full
version, which adds up to an 11mb download.

The next version of CoinManage will be ready in September of this year.  It
will include additional features such as Export to HTML, better looking
printouts, a "Needed to Complete" feature, the ability to attach 2 images
(obverse and reverse?) to each record instead of the current 1 image
limitation, and several other improvements.  The new version will also include
1999 values for U.S and Canadian coins.  Uprading to the new version will be
free to all registered users.

Sincerely,

Nikki Barbieri

Inventory software

Post by Alice M Bergman » Sat, 17 Jul 1999 04:00:00

Has any one compared Coin Elite with Coin Collector's Assistant and grading
programs?  ...also Coin Manager.  I would be willing to set up an Excel spread sheet
comparing them and make it available to this group.  I would like to know their ease
of use, ability to import pictures, inventory flexibility, availability of grading
software, ability to track the current value of your collection, current values for
all coins, cost, fees for upgrading and getting current coin prices..and any other
topic of interest.
I guess it would be important to know how "modern" the software is and if it has a
tendency to lock-up or crash.

I would be interested in any information that could be emailed to me.  If there is
interest I could post a survey.
