Cuban notes HELP!!!

Post by MATAN » Fri, 24 May 1996 04:00:00

I have recently acquired several notes from Cuba and as I am just
beginning to collect, I would like some of you experts out there to help
me out again. Please let me know any history and the market value of these
notes if possible. Thanks to all that reply.

Note #1- 1 1/2"x3" small note. Veinte Centavos(en metalico) issued in
Havana on  February 15, 1897. The top of the note reads: EL BANCO ESPANOL
DE LA ISLA DE CUBA. It has a serial # of 0107261 and is handsigned by "El
gobernador" last name of Cassa. The note is dirty but completely intact
with no rips or tears. It has a seal in the center consisting of a crown
over two royal shields. The rear displays an ox driven cart carrying what
appears to be hay.

Note #2- Large square note. Diez Pesos(fuertes en metalico) issued in
Havana on May 15, 1896. The center of the note reads: EL BANCO ESPANOL DE
LA ISLA DE CUBA with a large picture of an ox driven cart carrying hay in
a field. It has a serial # of 493666 and is handsigned by 3 persons: El
Gobernador, El consejero, and El Cajero. The rear is printed in green ink
and shows a crown over a royal shield. The back has an intricate ribboning
effect and design. There is a serrated edge on the front right of the note
still attatched to a thin piece of paper as if the notes were kept in a
large sheet and torn out when necesarry. The note is in great shape and
has no rips or stains and is pretty clean.

NOTE: Both notes above were printed by the American Banknote Co. New York

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Note #1 Is Catalog P-53 20 centavos..your Note sounds
like it is in grade Fine..est. value .75cents
Note #2 is P-49  But which one I dont know, as there are
4 varieties..your Note really has to be seen to be
properly identified.
Try looking in your local library for Standard Catalog
of World paper Money-general issues. Then see if you
can identify it.(Or buy the Catalog).
