These are novelty items. The image of KY was added (punched in) after it
left the US Mint. As such it has no numismatic value, but there are people
who collect them. They would fall into the category of exonumia; altered
coins similar in concept to the elongated cents ("smashed pennies") that
can be made in machines at zoos, arcades and amu***t parks. I have some
punched cents that have the Apollo space mission insignias on them, and one
that has a pumpkin on it that was created at the Circleville, OH Pumpkin
Festival. Besides images of the 50 states, I have also seen one that made
it look like Lincoln was smoking a cigar.
