I have one as well and have been asking questions about it. It seems that
the US mint experimented with the coating in 1983 and 1985. Your cent should
have a yellowish/brass color. If I remember correctly, in BU it would make
some $10-20, but I can't remember precisely...

Sone while back I found a 1983 Lincolin Penny in BU condition that is not the
regular copper color of US pennies but is a bronze color.  I have a regular
1983 Lincolin Penny also in BU condition and the two placed side by side look
like the bronze one is made out a different metal.  Other than the color the
two pennies look exactly the same in every detail.  I have not compared the
weights of the two pennies yet.  Has anyone else seen strange colored
pennies and is this penny worth anything.

In 1983 and again in 1985 the mint had some problems with overannealing
(overheating) of the copper-plated zinc planchets.  This caused some of the
zinc and copper to blend making the so called 'bronze plated' planchets.  (I
don't understand exactly how this 'blending' occurs, but this is the way it
was explained to me by Alan Herbert).  These come in various shades ranging
the spectrum between red (normal) to dull yellow.  I've found dozens of
these dated 1983 that are partly yellow, sometimes almost a lite green in
BU rolls and bags of 1983 cents.
