I was visiting the 2003 Tour de France web site and read that tour
organizers Patrice Clerc & Jean-Marie Leblanc have contacted the Paris
mint to produce medals commemorating the 100th anniversary of the race
(1903-2003). Anyone know anything about this? Thanks!

There was a small article in Coin World a couple of months ago on the coins.
It was in the International section. I do not have the article any longer,
If anyone has the electronic version of Coin World they may be able to post
the link from the article.

Nice looking coin. It had a chain running thru the middle with a modern day
rider above the chain and an early era rider below the chain, looking like a
reflection in water of the modern rider.

Try a search for the French Mint. I'm pretty sure it was on their website.

Good luck,
Ed

The French Mint www.monnaiedeparis.fr (or .com for English) issued a
nice set of coins, not medals, commemorating the anniversary. Five
different types, in silver (face value 1.50) and gold (face value
20). One of the types - the one that Doggo entioned - is also available
as a 0.25 silver piece, a 10 gold and a 50 gold coin.

Here is the first page for Tour items in English. Sweet looking coins,I
think.
