1871 Seated Liberty Dollar Orientation

1871 Seated Liberty Dollar Orientation

I recently received an 1871 liberty seated dollar and was very suprised to
notice that the coin has a medal orientation (flip along y-axis). I searched
the web for some certified examples and they all had standard coin
orientation (flips along x-axis). I compared the coin to another seated
liberty I have of a different date and they it looks to be genuine. Right
size, right weight, right details, etc. The only difference is the
orientation. Has anyone heard of this before? Is this just a mint error or
am I the unhappy recipient of a counterfeit? Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Many of the Chinese fakes are made with the wrong alignment.  What is the
weight?  Many fakes weigh 22-24 grams rather than 26.7 of the genuine coins.
