Steam beer need lagering?

Hello all,
Does anybody know if Anchor Steam is lagered?  I keep meaning to
take a tour but haven't been able to cut work for it.  Anybody make a
California Common without lagering?  How'd it go?

Steam beer need lagering?

I've made it, and I didn't lager it.  Tasted just like Anchor Steam.

I think that is the big thing with AS Beer--that its made with a lager yeast
in Ale conditions.

Steam beer need lagering?

One of my favorite styles to brew is Steam, but no way can I say that a
third of my batches are Steams.  I am interested in your favorite Steam
recipes, though.

My most recently completed Steam (5 gallon batch) used 9 lbs
of 2-row, a pound and a quarter of 40L Crystal, and a quarter pound of
dark crystal (110-150L, or so said the package).  Mash temp was 154.  I
used an ounce of Northern Brewer at 60, 17, and 1 minutes, and Wyeast
2112. I don't have the alpha acids of the hops handy, but I targeted the
beer to be a bit more bitter than Anchor Steam.  It turned out great!  To
me, for other beers, a full pound and a half of crystal seems a bit much,
but I think that was a key for this beer.

I brewed the same recipe day before yesterday, but used 3oz of 150L
crystal instead of the 4oz of 110-150, and my mash was thinner and cooler
(150) than the previous time.  We'll see how it turns out.

Warren,

Couldn't find the original post of this. In the event you haven't
received a reply yet: according to Daniels Anchor cold conditions

I just read the section on California Common in Designing Great Beers
for the first time last night. Very interesting style. I like it!
