I'm making stout. My recipe originally called for flaked oats, but last
time I added half a pound of CaraPils because I wasn't happy with what
the oats were doing. But I can't remember whether I took out the oats.

Think 1.5 lbs. of oats and .5 lbs. CaraPils is too much for 5 gallons?
Am I going to end up with syrup?

I'm sure it'll be fine, but opinions would be useful.

Kinda depends on the rest of the recipe, but I don't hink you're too far
out of line.

Okay, here's a better question.

Did the LHBS make a stout ***oo?

The guy who filled my order took the CaraPils from a big plastic bottle
with no label. But I'm wondering if it was really CaraPils. He didn't
make absolutely sure.

I could swear the wort tastes smoky. Would half a pound of smoked malt
be enough to give it a smoky flavor?

I think I need to call them and see what the deal is.

It sure wouldn't be impossible. Rauch malt would give it a slight
smokines. 1/2 lb. of peated maltwould be distinctly smoky.
