Has anybody ever painted the bottom of the stainless steel brew pot with
a high temp black paint to help absorb heat?  Would this absorb the
radiant heat from the flame?  Since the shinny metal would reflect and
black absorbs all light could this speed up heating?

I can't speak for this in terms of brewing, but back in my climbing days I
would sometimes see people do this for climbing/backpacking purposes. A lot
of manufacturers are making their pots black as well.

It is said to conserve fuel i.e. be more efficient.

Good question.  I have also considered DIY anodizing and
DIY electroplating with copper.  Of course, thinking about
it was as far as I ever got.

You can paint it any color you want but it won't help.  Reason being,
they don't make a paint that can withstand direct heat from a flame
unless you buy the paint they put on the Shuttle which is several
hundred dollars per gallon.....
