LOC IV Construction Tips Needed

LOC IV Construction Tips Needed

Post by Kevin Boor » Mon, 23 Jun 1997 04:00:00

I will building my LOC IV kit in the near future. I would be grateful
for any construction tips or mods that I should be aware of.
This also applies to my Aerotech Mirage kit (question also posted under
it's own heading).

What reloads are suitable for the LOC IV rocket?

Thanks in advance

I would strongly recommend fiberglassing the fins. They go through the
wall but don't go all the way to motor mount. On my first flight one
fin broke off upon landing so I went back and re-finished the fins with
glass. I ran a continuous sheet from the tip of one, across the tube to
the tip of another (repeat for all three).

Flies well on a G64-4 or G80-4.

Turned mine into a flying cow....http://www.galaxyphoto.com/flycow

Add a third centering ring at the top of the fin tab to prevent crushing the
fin canister on rough landings. Perhaps extend the motor mount and create an
ORI type baffle in the stuffer tube space.

The LOC-IV should fly great on just about any of the 29mm reloads. The usual
no BlackJack reloads on windy days, but anything else should be fine. I've
flown mine on F, G, and H reloads and a couple expendables.

Use glass to reinforce the fin joint, not necessary to glass the whole
fin unless you feel like it.  I use G64, H128, and H180.

Also add t-nuts to the rear centering ring to use in holding the reload
in and not ejecting the casing.
