This is a VERY impressive looking sport-staged model, and a must for
anyone who likes ring fins. Imagine a staged model with >5< BT-101
rings around the back (two on each of the boosters, and one on the
upper stage) and a set of trangular forward fins. This thing would be
a real head-turner at any launch, and with proper paint and markings
would make a great futuristic model. It also probably has enough drag
that one could fly three stage without the certainty of losing the
upper stage every flight. <G>

By contrast, a cute but unexciting BT-20, four-fins-and-a-tube model
for Mini-engine power.

When I was a kid, this was the holy grail of scratch building items, a
wide assortment of centering rings and a "universal" shroud. If we'd
had photocopiers in those days, I would have made about a million of
those shrouds. Note the largest ring of the shroud, marked "MC."
This is for the old built-up mercury capsule, a balsa heat shield
(with a "retro pack" that fit in a BT-20 tube) and a balsa nose unit,
connected by a pre-printed paper shroud (black markings on white
paper, pretty useless). I still have mine.

A classic D-engine sport model with nice lines an a beautiful decal
sheet (notice the "proto-swoosh" markings on the fins).

A very nice 50's style spaceliner, rather like the current Estes
Silver Comet, only with much more style. Note the fin-tip engine
pods, and nifty markings.
