Estes E2 launch controller/ Power Plex pad

The Estes catalog says that the E2 launch controller shouldn't be used for
clustering.  What is the reason for this?  I can see that 4C cells may not light
a cluster of igniters but I don't see a problem with a 7.2v R/C Nicad (which the E2
can also use).

Also, is the Power Plex Launch Pad worth the money?

thanks,

Andy

Andy, The simple reason for Estes wanting you to use the "more
expensive" launcher besides the obvious is it has more power. A homemade
12 volt launcher(can run off car battery or other source, car battery
more reliable for clustering) is "much" better than any ESTES crap, I
know I've been in rocketry since 1975 and have had many ESTES launchers.
Same deal on the Power Plex. The pad is very low to the ground hence
causing possible eye injuries with the rod and the jet blast is nearer
the ground which ain't good either. I witnessed a cato'd motor (estes)
that totally destroyed the power plex too!! Not very durable!! I would
be glad to give you instructions on making your own launcher for about
$15 from any building supply store. The pad isn't hard either. General
rule of thumb is ESTES = needs modification to work properly. Rockets or

Hi, I don't have the E2, but I do have the command control. If you can
hook up the 7.2 ni-cd you will have enough juice. you might want to add a
tail with another micro clip to the hot lead for more flxibilty around all
those short leads (that is the way the Command Controller is set up). Plus
the Command Controller has 30' of pretty heavy gauge wire.
As for the Power Plex, I thought so!!! It's versatile, portable and
launched my PML Explorer just fine. Jim.
