I have a LOC IV that zippered.  I had to cut the tube around 3 1/2" to 4"
can I fly it like this or do I have to make it longer?  I know that by
making it shorter I have moved the CG back.  How will this effect the CP?

The CP will be moved back a little, too.

will it be stable if I just fly it shorter and not add weight, or change
the cg or cp?

Hmmm.......i think it would be better if you just added nose wieght.I wouldent
shorten it.Shortening it will chang CP/Cg and would take umerouse test to
correct whats been done.

I have already shortened it because of a zipper.  Now what?

The LOC IV is a very stable rocket.  After shortening make sure the balance
point is 8 inches ahead of the fins LE where they attach to the body.  Do
this with the motor in the rocket and you'll have no problem.  Add nose
weight if necessary.

As long as the pad can hold the appropriate size launch rod.  (I dunno
what that is, tho)

Yes.  You may want to stake the legs.  You'll need a 1/4" launch rod.
