I have just bought from a car boot sale, a JETEX 50 motor with 3
boxes of
solid fuel pellets, complete with "washers and gauzes"
Can any of you "oldies" (it was made in 1962 apparently)tell me
which way
round to fit the washers and gauzes, and how to light it????
Thanx for any replies.

I'm doing this from memory, so I'll probably get it wrong...  The gauze goes
in contact with the fuel pellet and the washer (it's lead, as I recall) goes
inside the nozzle/cap.  Lighting it is a fairly complex matter.  If you
don't have any Jetex wick (usually packed in a flat metal can) you may be
out of luck.  What you do is place a spiral of wick between the gauze and
pellet when loading, and then when ready to fly (I'll assume you have a
glider designed for Jetex power...) you insert a piece of wick through the
nozzle and light it.

Geez!!!!  that brings back memories---circa 1950--- hate to admit.
I had the little yellow plastic car----came as part of the package that
had eyelets under the chassis to allow a thread to be stretched down the
street to guide the thing. The biggest problem was the fuse--the wire
coating was too brittle and forever failed to burn properly.  When it
did light the car would go like the clappers usually further than I
could find thread for. Gave that up and went into bungee chord launched
glide rockets with impact exploding warheads, but that is another story.
