ATF and address changes

Post by Ted Proseu » Thu, 07 Jun 2001 23:41:25

This might save someone some time and headache.  I've been trying to
change my address for my LEUP for some time.  I followed the
instructions on the back of the LEUP that said notify the Chief of
Licensing in writing.  4 months passed and an application for an amended
firearms permit arrived.  Nowhere does it even mention explosives.  I
figured someone made a mistake so I called a few times and left a
message, but never managed to get back with the right person on the
phone.  (The phone number on the web was wrong too)

Today the operator that answered confirmed my suspicions that someone
had made a mistake and then transfeered me to the person I actually
needed to talk to.  But she told me "No that form is correct... it just
says firearms on the paper but it's for explosives too.  We really ought
to update that".  DUH!!!  Also she said I have to send in the original
license too.  It says nothing about that on the back of the license
where it talks about address changes.

So it's going to get done one way or another.  Now if they would just
stop changing phone numbers all the time!

ATF and address changes

Thats funny.  I just sent them a letter when I moved and they sent me an
updated leup.

The ATF offices seem to all operate very differently.  I live in washington
state, and have had my leup for several years now.  I originally sent in my
form with a cover letter, got my permit about a month later.  No phone call,
no interview, nothin.  When I moved I notified them, got a new license, no
phone call, no interview nothing.  When I got my magazine setup and sent
them a notification letter telling them I intended to use the magazine for
storage, invited them out for an interview, and asked for a form to get my
manufacturers permit I got an envelope with the manufacturers permit
application, nothing else.  I think the ATF around here realize that us
rocketeers are not much of a threat.  Too bad its not like that all over.

Incubator, incubator.  Ah, here it is.  Nope, can't let you have one.
Why not?  It's not like we're asking for a popcorn machine or pizza oven.
Oh, those I can let you have.  Fill out form xxxxx and cross out 'machine
gun' and write in 'pizza'.

If you have a firearms license then you have the LUEP already?

Firearms licenses are a different category, but IIRC the same basic
application form with a (different box checked) is required.

When I got my firearms license, I was fingerprinted...all 10. They
didn't fingerprint me for my LEUP.
