Shelf Life of AP + HTPB

Shelf Life of AP + HTPB

I am posting this to Rec.modes.rockets and Rec.pyrotechnics.

What is the shelf life of a composite rocket motor.  i.e.  Ap + HTPB.

If I stock up on Aerotech "F" and "G" motors, how long can I safely store
them?

If you keep them in a cool and dry place, there is no reason that they
would not last for decades.

About five years ago, AeroTech asked S&T to decertify a number of engines
they had made to be relabeled and resold by US Rockets.  The reason they
gave, according to Jack Kane, was that the engines were past the expiration
of their shelf life.  When Jack asked them about some of their own
discontinued but certified engine types that had reached the same age,
the original issue suddenly was not so cut and dry.  We did nothing about
any of the engines.  I believe the manufacturer's official stance now is
that their composite engines have a practically indefinite shelf life.
